The Seven Deadly Sins

Nanatsu no Taizai (The Seven Deadly Sins) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Nakaba Suzuki. It has been serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine since October 2012, with the chapters collected into thirty-eight tankōbon volumes as of September 2020. The story features a great adventure of the seven deadly sins, in search of the missing Kingdom of Liones. The series has been licensed for an English language release by Kodansha USA.

An anime television series adaptation by A-1 Pictures aired from October 2014 to March 2015. A second season aired from January to June 2018. An anime film was released on August 18, 2018. Netflix released a four-part anime original video animation series titled The Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods on September 17, 2019. A second anime film titled The Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon's Judgment was released on January 13, 2021.

The Seven Deadly Sins is set in a fantasy world where humans and non-humans alike coexist and follows the adventures of the titular group of seven knights. The group is composed of Meliodas, the Dragon's Sin of Wrath, and captain of the group, as well as the other members, Ban, the Fox's Sin of Greed, King the Grizzly's Sin of Sloth, Diane the Serpent's Sin of Envy, Gowther the Goat's Sin of Lust, Merlin the Boar's Sin of Gluttony, and Escanor the Lion's Sin of Pride. The group is joined by Elizabeth Liones, the third princess of the Kingdom of Liones who is in search of the Seven Deadly Sins in order to save the kingdom. The series is known for its intense action and comedy scenes as well as its emotional moments.

                                                                         

Theme:

The theme of Nanatsu no Taizai is redemption. While the series is filled with action, comedy, and plenty of over-the-top moments, it also deals with the idea of redemption and the power of friendship. Each of the seven sins have done some horrible things in their past and are looking for a way to atone for their sins and make up for the wrong they have done. The show also explores the idea of how far people are willing to go to save their friends and family, and how the bonds of friendship can help people overcome even the toughest of obstacles.

 

About the Characters:

The main characters of Nanatsu no Taizai are the Seven Deadly Sins, a group of seven powerful knights who were exiled from the kingdom of Liones for their crimes. The group is composed of Meliodas, the Dragon’s Sin of Wrath and captain of the group, Ban, the Fox’s Sin of Greed, King the Grizzly’s Sin of Sloth, Diane the Serpent’s Sin of Envy, Gowther the Goat’s Sin of Lust, Merlin the Boar’s Sin of Gluttony, and Escanor the Lion’s Sin of Pride. Each of the sins has their own unique strengths and weaknesses, and together they form a formidable team. In addition to the Seven Deadly Sins, the series also features several other characters such as Elizabeth Liones, the third princess of the Kingdom of Liones, and her allies, the Holy Knights.

 

Fight Scenes & Soundtracks:

The fight scenes in Nanatsu no Taizai are some of the most exciting and intense in all of anime. The intense battles, combined with the series’ soundtrack, make for a truly thrilling experience. The soundtrack is composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, and features a mix of orchestral and electronic pieces that perfectly capture the emotion of the series. The soundtrack also features a number of vocal songs, including the opening theme “Seven Deadly Sins”, performed by Man with a Mission.

Nanatsu no Taizai has been met with mostly positive reviews from both critics and fans. On IMDB, the series has a score of 8.3 out of 10 and is ranked #93 on the Top 250 TV list. On Anime News Network, the series has an overall score of 8.3 out of 10 and is ranked #19 on the Top 100 Anime list. Critics praise the series for its compelling characters, intense fight scenes, and emotional moments.
